Abstract – This study constitutes a theoretical and historical review of the evolution of Libraries and the role of librarians in the context of creating sustainable libraries, through A.I. and Human Intelligence, offering the public an interesting cultural and art experience (Edwards, 2020: Frick, 2021).
The modern era is overwhelmed by intelligent technological achievements – once considered as simple creations of unbridled futuristic fiction by science fiction writers. Artificial Intelligence is now being accepted in all sectors as a particularly important helper of humans (Barsha, Munshi, Duggal, Green, Panda, Chakravarty, 2023: Zhang and Dahu, 2019).
Libraries are among the traditional poles of promoting culture and disseminating knowledge to the public, without restrictions (race, age, socioeconomic, cultural, etc.). Their evolution (from simple places for storing documents and archives to living, sustainable cultural organizations and to carriers of safe, global knowledge in a lifelong learning process - with intense social-extroverted activity) led to the good cooperation of Artificial and Human Intelligence with the ultimate goal of creating sustainable libraries. The adoption of A.I. by them contributes to saving valuable time for librarians, since machines undertake processes such as: automated cataloging, classification, digitization of rare and old archives, analysis of a multitude of data, identification of place names or geographical references in texts. They also provide useful information and personalized book recommendations to readers, as well as enhanced navigation of sources and detailed browsing of library spaces (Johnson, 2018). Therefore, A.T. maintains a standardized, subscriber role (Esmaeili, Gallagher, Springer & Matson, 2021: Jacknis, 2017).
For their part, modern librarians utilize A.I. services in a constructive way, proceeding with strategic planning and guiding readers in the search for targeted, valid information, while exploring the ethical and social dimensions of this process and taking initiatives in decisions that require human judgment and empathy.
